Note: While the book alone is adequate if it's being used by an individual, Lumen is designed to be accompanied by the art prints. The prints can be displayed in the home or classroom, and they allow students to see the works of art more clearly as they study and make comparisons between them. We do recommend that, if Lumen is being used in a larger classroom or co-op setting, each family has their own set of prints so the student can spend more attentive time with the works.

Exceeds expectations

Just like Volume 1 of Lumen, this second volume exceeds expectations. I have homeschooled my children for 16 years, all of which have included art study, but the approach in Lumen has taught us more about how to view art than any other program we have used. In addition to learning about specific pieces and artists, Lumen teaches us how to “read” a piece of artwork using the elements (line and space so far) as a guide. This has helped us enormously to notice things we had overlooked before when visiting art museums. Lumen is our favorite part of the school day!

The Only Art Contemplation Resource You Need

Having relevant, classic pieces to compare the primary pieces with is an invaluable aid for a teacher. I can devote all my time to seeing and contemplating the pieces myself.

Also, the quality of these prints is far, far better than what most os us can achieve with home or FedEx printers.

For anyone looking to become more artistically knowledgeable, this series is the best resource I have found.

Art study for adults

Even though I'm done homeschooling my children, I am purchasing and working through the Lumen series as each book is released. I am redeeming my education because I never had the opportunity to study art. I started appreciating art as my daughter studied it when we were homeschooling, but that's been my only exposure until I had to prepare to tutor art for co-op teaching. Now because of Lumen and other resources, I seek out art museums when I travel. It is a joy to have a deeper appreciation for art, and to recognize artists as friends when I am at a museum. I eagerly await the release of the rest of the series!
